Puncture repair in Edgware

Picked up a nail or a slow leak? Drop in. We'll inspect the tyre, find the leak, and repair it properly if it's safe to — usually within half an hour.

How we repair a puncture

A safe puncture repair isn't a stick-on patch or a quick external plug — those are temporary and not legal as a permanent fix in the UK. Every repair we do follows the British Standard BSAU 159:

  • Tyre removed from the rim and inspected inside for hidden damage
  • Punctured area cleaned and prepared
  • Combined plug-and-patch repair fitted from the inside
  • Tyre refitted, inflated and water-tested for further leaks
  • Wheel re-balanced on the spot

When a tyre can't be repaired

Some damage just isn't safe to repair, however much you'd like it to be:

  • Punctures in the sidewall or shoulder area
  • Holes larger than 6mm
  • Multiple repairs close together
  • Tyres that have been driven flat or under-inflated for long distances
  • Cords or plies showing through

If yours falls into one of those categories we'll tell you straight, show you why, and quote a replacement (new or part worn) without pressure.

Slow leaks

Tyre always a few PSI down on Monday morning? It's often not a nail — it can be a corroded alloy bead, a tired valve, or a microscopic puncture you can't see. We dunk-test the whole tyre to pinpoint the exact source before we do anything else.

Common questions we hear in the workshop

Can every puncture be repaired?+

No. Punctures in the central tread area, smaller than 6mm and not too close to the shoulder, can usually be repaired safely. Sidewall damage, repairs near the edge, or tyres that have been driven flat must be replaced — repairing them isn't legal or safe.

Is a puncture repair cheaper than a new tyre?+

Almost always. A proper plug-and-patch repair from the inside is a fraction of the cost of even a budget tyre. Bring the wheel in — we'll inspect first and only quote a repair if it's safe to do.

How long does a puncture repair take?+

Usually 20–30 minutes once we've got the wheel off. That includes removing the tyre from the rim, finding the leak, cleaning, patching, refitting and balancing.

Is a repaired tyre as safe as a new one?+

Yes, when the repair follows the British Standard (BSAU 159) — that means a plug from the outside and a patch on the inside, never a simple external plug on its own. That's how we do every repair.

My tyre keeps losing pressure but I can't see a nail. Can you find it?+

Yes — slow leaks are often a corroded rim bead, a leaky valve, or a tiny puncture you can't spot. We dunk-test the tyre to find the exact source before repairing or recommending replacement.

Can you repair a run-flat tyre?+

Most manufacturers don't recommend repairing run-flats once they've been driven on — the sidewall structure can be damaged invisibly. We'll inspect honestly and tell you whether yours is safe to repair or needs replacing.
