Part worn tyres,
properly inspected
A cheaper short-term option when you need one — every part worn tyre we fit is inspected inside and out against the UK legal standard before it touches your wheel.
What you get
We keep a stock of inspected part worn tyres in popular sizes, with healthy tread depth (always above the legal 2mm minimum, usually more). Each one is checked for plug repairs, sidewall damage, bead damage and uneven wear before it goes on sale. If we wouldn't put it on our own car, we won't put it on yours.
New vs part worn — the honest answer
Part worns aren't always the cheapest option once you factor in tread life. A budget new tyre at 8mm will outlast a part worn at 4mm by roughly double the miles. Where part worns genuinely make sense:
- You're selling the car within a few months
- You need to pass an MOT on one corner only
- You've damaged one nearly-new tyre and want to match a partner
- You drive low miles and want to spend as little as possible right now
We'll quote both options every time so you can decide.
What we don't do
We don't sell tyres with hidden plug repairs, exposed cords, sidewall splits, or anything below the legal limit. If a tyre comes in that doesn't pass inspection, it gets scrapped — full stop.

Common questions we hear in the workshop
Are part worn tyres legal in the UK?+
Yes, as long as they meet the legal standard: at least 2mm tread across the full width, no exposed cords or plies, no unrepaired punctures larger than 6mm, and clearly stamped 'PART WORN'. Every tyre we sell is inspected against that standard before it goes on a car.
Are part worn tyres safe?+
A properly inspected part worn tyre with healthy tread is safe to drive on. The trade-off is tread life — a part worn tyre with 4mm left will wear out sooner than a new tyre at 8mm.
How much do part worn tyres cost?+
Part worns are usually cheaper than a comparable new tyre, but the gap is narrower than people think — especially against a budget new tyre. We'll always quote both so you can decide. Call 020 8952 6551.
When does a part worn tyre make sense?+
If you're selling the car soon, only need to get through an MOT on one corner, or you've had a sidewall puncture on a nearly-new tyre and want to match a partner. Otherwise a budget new tyre is often better value over the miles.
How do you check a part worn tyre?+
We inspect inside and out for hidden plug repairs, sidewall damage, bead damage and uneven wear, then measure tread across multiple points. Anything we wouldn't put on our own car doesn't go on yours.
